Let Your Skin Breathe In The New Year
Holiday partying can really take a toll on your precious skin…
So, while you make the party rounds this year, remember this skin advice from Guest Editor Di Gaeta.
Sometimes we forget, but our skin is actually alive! It’s hundreds and thousands of cells, living and breathing and shifting around right under the surface. And those cells deserve a breath every now and then. Plus, a lack of “air” can make your skin seem sallow and dull. That’s when Oxygen products come to the rescue. These products have a stable form of Hydrogen peroxide that not only neutralize bacteria - no more breakouts (YAY) - but also dissolve into pure oxygen on your skin (no more sallow skin!).
Now, for my favorites…
The geniuses at SKN, a dermatologist’s practice in Beverly Hills, make an entire unbelievable line of Pure Oxygen products. My pick, if I’m forced to choose, is their Blue Mask. It leaves skin completely cleansed and tightened with a super smooth sheen. Check out the whole line at www.loveyourskn.com.
My other treasured item is the Oxygen Cream by Natura Bisse Barcelona. This cream is light and delicate with a wonderful just-cleaned laundry smell. Whenever I want to wake up with a flawless complexion, this is my choice. They also make a mask that I recommend, but it is a clear gel and I’m partial to more clay type masks like the blue one.
One last thing… Here’s my routine. First, I exfoliate, then I slather on the blue mask for fifteen minutes, and follow it all with the Natura Bisse cream, Finally, I hit the hay. I swear by this routine, my skin has never felt more alive, peachy and, well…like it just got the perfect amount of sleep!

DOES THIS LOOK LIKE A WIG TO YOU?!?!
Okay, so YES, maybe she IS married to the most successful movie star in all of the land, but Katie Holmes' hair is anything but successful.
Is it just me, or does she look like she's wearing a wig? (And yes, I know that some of these photos are from x17, and yes, they will probably make me take them down... but, here's to wishful thinking. After all, it IS the Holiday season!)
Seriously though, I think that she's wearing a wig... and that Tom Crusie (and baby Suri) have aged her...
You be the judge!
Short hair is HOT or NOT?

Okay, this next one has GOT TO BE A WIG!!! Right?!?!?
Katie Holmes, pre-Tom, pre-Suri, and pre-Posh! Kinda HOT, NO?

Weekend Beauty Buys
Hair-crazed Jenny is in town (remember her? CLICK HERE to read her hysterical hair horror stories) and we spent the entire day beauty shopping!
Here's what I bought:
From Lapeer Beauty Supply in Beverly Hills (my new FAVE beauty destination):
Klorane Oat Extract Dry Shampoo - this is the very BEST dry shampoo that I have EVER used. It's from the French line, Klorane, and until today, I was unable to find it without going to Europe or ordering online! It adds volume, absorbs oil and smells so damn purrrty!
KMS Head Remedy Clarify Shampoo - This once or twice weekly shampoo removes oil and product build-up. Key to having healthy, luminous lockes!
Sebastian Professional Shine Styling Flat Iron - Ceramic coating for straight hair without the damage. (Did you know that the thinner the flat iron is, the easier it is to reach the roots and get your hair super straight??? I have a fat flat iron and needed a skinny one!)
Andrea Q's Oil-Free Eye Make-Up Remover Pads - LOVE these... pre-soaked, non oily pads that remove your eye make-up and not your eye lashes! Great for sensitive eyes (like me!)
From Sephora:
Fresh Supernova Mascara - LOVE this new find! Lengthens without lumping and clumping! I bought one for me and one for a gift! Sharing the secrets...
Korres Body Butter in Guava - I bought 3 tubes of this.... LOVE it! Gave one to Jenny, wrapped another one for a gift, and kept the last for me! Read my rave review HERE!

Holiday Hair...
Jen Atkin, cutter to the stars (and to moi!), has offered up the most fabulous Holiday hair tips:
Question: What's in right now?Answer: Romantic waves with a twist. Twisting the bangs or front part of your hair and pinning them back. It's very Grecian and the perfect party look... Ala the Olsens (as in Ashley and MK).
Also, hair accessories are very stylish. Try anything feathery. A feathery headband (piece) on messy hair is very hot right now. It dresses up your hair, stands out, but it's easy. For girls with bangs, wear them down and add a net (Lilly Allen loves this look) or hat (ala Kylie Minogue).
Add a tourbon. Wigs Today on La Cienega sells great ones.. Scarfs are in too. It's all very 1920's parisian.
Question: What's a quick, stylish Holiday updo that my readers can actually do themselves at home?
Answer: With dried, messy hair, take it in your hand, like a ponytail, at the nape of the neck. Roll it up and inwards. And pin with bobby pins. Let pieces fall to create a more romantic look. This is very Jessica Stam (model).
Question: Holiday hair cut?
Answer: Versace bangs for sure... Thick heavy bangs with messy, long hair (mid length, above the boob). Think Lilly Allen.
Question: Any other useful Holiday hair tips?
Answer: My hope for 2008 is that everyone stops with the extensions! It's an easy fix but not worth the damage it causes to the hair!

So, I know that I missed last week's Holiday gift guide... therefore, this week's is gonna ROCK THE HOUSE!
Gift ideas for the beauty obsessed:
La Mer - The Connoisseur Collection
The Creme de la Mer cream has long been a cult favorite of celebrities and fancy women with loads of money. This isn't the gift for everyone, as it is a bit pricey, but if you've got the cash and you're feeling mighty generous, this collection will literally bring tears to the recipients eyes. It's THAT good! The Connoisseur Collection comes with Crème de la Mer (2 oz.), The Moisturizing Lotion (1.7 oz.) and The Lip Balm (.32 oz.) together in a nested set of lacquer keepsake boxes.
PRICE TAG: $380.00
Bond no. 9's Andy Warhol Silver Factory
This unisex perfume is developed in part with the Andy Warhol Foundation for The Visual Arts. The bottle is "AH" inspiring (very reminiscent of the Warhol Campbell Soup silkscreen that made him famous) and, apparently, the fragrance is just as delicious. Bond no. 9 has also created some amazing Holiday bottles (like the swarovski crystal ones) perfect for a fragrance junkie!
PRICE TAG: $230.00 for 100 ml.
Prescriptives Colorscope Refillable Palette For Eyes And Cheeks
This face palette comes in two tones - warm (golds) and cool (blues and purples). I'm definitely a warm sorta gal. It comes with a special Holiday cheek color and highlighter, and 6 amazing eye colors. Everything you'll need to get started on your post-Holiday hottie look.
Colors include: Ginger with gold overspray for cheeks, Warm Light with gold overspray for highlighting, and Frosting, Malt Sparkle, Pongee, Apricot, Antique Gold, and NEW Goldleaf for eyes!
PRICE TAG: $52.00
Cargo Bronzing Kit
Just because it's winter doesn't mean that you shouldn't sport a flattering tan! This collection of Cargo must-have bronzing products is the perfect gift for the tanning obsessed! It includes CARGO's best-selling and award-winning Medium Bronzer, professional quality powder/bronzing brush (my favorite kind - wide and stubby with mega-soft bristles), PurseGloss™ in Baja (exclusive to this kit), and the brand new EyeBronzer, in a reusable gift tin. Bronze thee face, sun and streak free!
PRICE TAG: $35.00 (an $81.00 value!)
Go Smile 5 Senses Toothpaste Kit
Okay, so maybe people don't actually want toothpaste as a present, but this kit will change their mind! It's packed with 5 deliciously tasting pastes that also whiten and protect your precious teeth! And after all, aren't the Holidays all about puckering up and sharing saliva?! Set includes toothpastes in Mango Paradise Smile™, Aloha Tropical Smile™, Lemonade Smile, Ginger Cookie Smile, Peppermint Candy Smile, and a travel toothbrush.
PRICE TAG: $25.00
Duel Cabernet/ Shiraz Blend
There's nothing like a beautiful glass of vino for the Holidays! Duel 2004 is a perfect blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Shiraz. With its aromas of blueberry, mocha dust and dark red plum, infused with raspberry and coffee bean, and accented by delicate hints of white pepper, cinnamon and clove, we're thinking this is the must-have wine of the Holiday season! I opened up a bottle to "taste" and ended up drinking the entire thing in one sitting! It's THAT good. Lets be honest.. who doesn't appreciate a fine bottle of red wine???
PRICE TAG: $38.00 for a bottle
Tis the Season!

Greek Goddess, Genie Love
Patty Bunch, head make-up artist for the ABC Family hit, Greek, swears by 5 products from Genie Cosmetics... the same 5 products that she uses over and over again to create that "star" look.
Here they are:
Genie Instant Line Smoother ($30). Patty first applies this multi-tasking product to prep, moisturize and perfect the skin. It contains a blend of vitamins and botanicals that work to minimize fine lines, shrink pores and prevent makeup fading.
Genie Line Smoothing Foundation ($40). Patty relies on this long-lasting liquid formula to give the girls flawless complexions. It provides buildable coverage, contains a patented T-One Complex that prevents collagen breakdown, and is made with specially coated pigments and light refractors to give skin a natural radiance.
Genie Cashmere Powder ($38). Patty applies this triple-milled, ultra-soft powder alone for light coverage or over foundation for a semi-matte finish. As with all of the Genie products, the translucent powder contains the T-One complex, vitamin E, soy protein and aloe Vera to keep skin hydrated and to ensure the makeup lasts.
Genie Make Me Blush ($20). For a healthy looking flush, Patty swipes on this buildable cream-powder formula made with skin-friendly antioxidants and hydrators. The sheer, creamy texture is impossible to over apply, and the blush contains micronized minerals to add a slight gleam to cheeks.
Genie TLC Mascara ($20). To achieve eye-catching lashes, Patty uses this mascara, which has color-adjusting pigments that change according to a person’s skin tone and a dual brush applicator. The super-fat top lash brush works to plump and lengthen each lash. The delicate bottom lash brush has hollow fibers to target tiny lashes for brilliant definition.
I've had the opportunity to play around with the products and, I've gotta say, they're amazing! I'd never heard of this cosmetic line prior to receiving samples, and I was a bit skeptical to put new colors on my skin. But I knew from the moment that my eyes rested on the matte gold compacts with simple white writing, I was in make-up love!
Two of the products have actually made their way into my permanent collection - the Make Me Blush All-Over Face Color is a must for blushing beauties! It's a gorgeous plum color that you can build to create the perfect amount of "blush" for you. It's cream (which I happen to like for Winter) looks very natural, but totally gave me that "fresh-faced" glow.
The other product that I adore is the Cashmere Powder - it comes with its own brush (like my favorite Tarte brush, short and stubby with a full head of soft bristles! The powder has a great consistency and it's SO smooth and subtle, it practically turned my skin flawless. I was extremely impressed with the results (after all, any powder used for a TV show has got to be pretty close to perfect as celebrities would rather die then be caught with bad skin!)
Genie Cosmetics is available through QVC UK.

The Very BEST Blushes
Once again, Guest Editor Di Gaeta is sharing her beauty expertise with you!
Hello, Darlings.
So, Sarah has asked me to share with you my favorite blushies and why, because I seem to have a knack for choosing them. As I’ve had every hair color in the book and am sometimes tan and sometimes not, I am offering up my various picks.
When I’m a pale blondie, like now, I LOVVVE the Apricot Face Tint by Laura Mercier. This blush looks scarily bright in its little jar but one dip, blow, and puff right on the apples of the cheeks and you look healthy and adorable. This is also a really great universal “I’m just in from the cold” color.
When I’m a tan brunette, I’m all about Nars Outlaw. The color is a deep sexy rose, and while too strong on fair skin, is STUNNING on darker tones. This color gives you that “own personal lighting team” effect for it has tiny flecks of gold in it.
Lastly, my two constants that fit everyone no matter what time of year are, Nars Lovejoy and Becca Beach Tint in Watermelon. The Lovejoy is a blend of the best-selling Orgasm blush (a golden peach) and their medium bronzer. This is a perfect pick for when you are ill, sallow, or need a general pick me up. The Beach tint comes in a cute, tiny, little, tube and it is the loveliest shade of, well, watermelon. This is my absolute fave because not only is it a beautiful “on the apples” blush but it is also the most fabulous “Angelina Jolie” lip color because it is both matte and just bitten looking.
Enjoy,
Xxx Di

TIP OF THE DAY
It's really cold... at least in L.A... random, I know, considering that Los Angeles isn't supposed to get cold!
Anyway, my skin is wilting... literally, drying up by the seconds. So, last night I decided to try a new product that I had received. Moisturizing and Conditioning Socks and Gloves... woke up this morning feeling a little less pruney.
Spa Sensials Intensive one-step Moisturizing and Conditioning Socks & Gloves are quick, easy and disposable. Just slide on the socks and gloves, chill for at least 15 minutes (watch TV, get a massage, etc.), then take them off and rub the remaining cream into skin (and chuck the old socks and gloves into the trash).
I suppose you could do this yourself with products from home... a shea butter lotion, a pare of socks and some mittens (or socks for your hands as well)... because in effect, what is really happening is that the sock is trapping the heat, thus creating a sauna-type effect on your feet and hands. This, coupled with the intense moisturizing qualities of the lotion (one with vitamin E and aloe vera is ideal), makes for a quality moisturizing experience!
But we like the Spa Sensials pre-soaked, pre-packaged ones. At $11.99 for 6 pairs of each (6 pairs of socks, 6 pairs of gloves), our only problem is that more don't come in the box! We could go through these things like our favorite Weleda Baby Calendula Cream (I apply about 4 times a day in this brutal winter weather)!

P.S. Great as a stocking stuffer!!!!

Breakthrough of the Year Awards
Hollywood Life's 7th Annual Breakthrough of the Year Award Ceremony was Sunday night at the Henry Fonda Theater in Hollywood. I had the pleasure of attending the show and seeing the hotness that is Meagan Fox, Josh Duhamel, and Kerry Washington first hand.
Let's start with Meagan - she donned a skimpy black dress, a long, thick ponytail, great, arched eyebrows and an awesome pinkish/ nude lippy. She may have won a Breakthrough of the Year award for her role in Transformers, but to us, she won because she's so damn hot!
Meagan Fox with presenter, Josh Duhammel
Kristen Stewart, the girl from Into The Wild, also won a Breakthrough Award, but she showed up way more casual. Black jeans, a black cardigan sweater, grey shirt, hair down and unkept and very minimal make-up. She's a total natural beauty (as well as an incredible actress), but we're thinking she could have tried just a tad harder.
Kristen Stewart with presenter, Emile Hirsch
Ellen Page, the awesome chick from this years BEST film, Juno, also received a Breakthrough Award. She's so cute in person - almost as cute as her character in Juno. She kept it simple and elegant. Nice, 3/4 length black dress, hair up in a low bun (or french twist - we couldn't really tell) with long, side swiped bangs. Again, minimal make-up.
Ellen Paige with presenter Ben Foster
Kerry Washington presented a Breakthrough Award to James McAvoy from the Last King Of Scotland, but the real winner - Hottness wise, was Ms. Washington! She totally rocked it, wearing a multi-colored sequined dress, flowing, curly hair (you know how much we love a good curl!), and flawless skin!
Kerry Washington with recipient, James McAvoy
Leslie Mann, you know, Mrs. Apatow, (and wife of Paul Rudd in Knocked Up) ALSO received a Breakthrough Award (although I'm pretty sure that she's been around for quite some time...). Leslie looked amazing - she has such an awesome bod, and she's a mother! DAMN! Loved her hair... again, tousled curls. And loved her personality. She really IS that perky!
Leslie Mann with presenter, Jonah Hill
Who do YOU think gave best face???

Spice Up Your Life...
Spice Girls Reunion Concert Re-Cap:
LOVED IT!
Granted, they're not the greatest singers, or even the best dancers, but they sure look fabulous on stage! And they completely brought down the house! I've never seen the Staples Center so abuzz (although I haven't been to a Justin Timberlake concert yet, either)!
(picture on left - Reunion Tour 2007)
Posh looked TO DIE (as usual). She's seriously got the tiniest waist that I have ever seen. And her signature short hair is back to brown... bye bye, blondie!
Scary's body is out of this world. Dancing With The Stars did wonders for her abs (at one point, she was wearing pants and a midriff baring top and she had an 8 pack!!!). Not to mention, she's a new mommy (take that Eddie Murphy!) and is that toned (we should all be so lucky)!
Ginger Spice has a hot body too! Skinny, skinny legs and a flat stomach. I kept thinking to myself, this chick is so hot (yet I don't remember her from past Spice Girls fame).
Baby Spice is totally cute. She has gorgeous, flowing blonde curls and the most adorable face ever - with massive blue eyes!
And Sporty, well, Sporty hasn't changed much. Out of all the Spice Girls, I find her to be the most unforgettable. So not feeling that pony tail!
Seriously, I can't believe these "girls" can still rock it at... how old are they? I came home and immediately started doing sit-ups!
Oh, and the high light of my night... SEEING DAVID BECKHAM IN THE FLESH! He struck gold in the genetic pool - hot, talented and super wealthy! I would totally date him!
(For your viewing pleasure...)
Who is YOUR favorite Spice Girl?
Jurlique + Whole Foods = Happy Face!
Just discovered that they sell one of my absolute favorite skin care lines, Jurlique, at my local Whole Foods (YAY)! Also noticed that they gave their packaging a face lift... and I'm actually liking it! Before, it used to be very basic - white bottles and tubes with blue writing. Now, it's a little more girly - still basic, but prettier.
Jurlique is known for using all-natural ingredients like plants, flowers and herbs to create the most gentle and nourishing products on the market! I call it, high-end organic (Michelle Pfeiffer is a fan and she's got damn good skin)!
Their Calendula Cream ($32.00) is an oldy but goody (I wrote about it ages ago as a weekly must-have)! Sooooo soothing and it smells au natural! Calendula is used to soothe irritated skin.... it's also great as a moisturizer for sensitive skin (like me!) as it is non-greasy yet extremely hydrating. Every beauty whore should have some calendula cream in her cosmetic's drawer (or closet)!
If Jurlique's Calendula Cream is a little too pricey, try Weleda Calendula Baby Cream (meant for babies but great for adults with sensitive skin). Also available at whole foods. I ADORE this product... I'm actually using it right now as I've run out of my Jurlique and wanted to save some cash. Again, it's non-greasy and incredibly soothing! (And it's only $9.00!)
I'm also slightly obsessed with the Jurlique Daily Exfoliation Cream ($25.00). It's a non-granular exfoliating cream, rich in oats, almonds and honey to loosen and lift away dead skin cells. Again, it's very gentle and soothing.
I want to try every single product in the line, but some of it is out of my price range so I guess I'll have to add it to my never ending beauty wish list!
