History of the Earring...

Get this: Earrings weren't always just beautiful jewelry that hung from your earlobes...

If you had been born in a different culture or time, you might have been using earrings to mark your social status, keep away evil, or even show your availability to marry. Earrings have a long and colorful history of being used in ceremonial, social, and religious settings for different purposes. They were worn not only on the ear lobes, but in other parts of the body too. While you may not believe now, like Indian brides did previously, that piercing your left nostril and putting an earring stud in it will drive away pain in childbirth, it can still be fun to discover why these earring customs took hold back then.
