Facing Winter: Skin Savers For All Skin Types

Making the switch from summer to winter can take a toll on all parts of the body -- hair, nails, skin and, of course, your face. While summer is known for its naturally hydrating elements, winter is depleting, cold and chafing.

I asked Oni Chaves, Amore Pacific Skin Specialist (Amore Pacific makes some of my all-time favorite face moisturizers!) to dish on winter skin savers for all skin types. Here are her tips:

Summer is all about using gel formulas. "Gel versions are more suitable for humidity and heat and sunscreen. If you have oily skin use an oil free, mattifier," explains Oni. As winter approaches, skin needs extra hydration.

For oily skin, "you still have to wear a moisturizer. Try Bamboo Sap. It's a humectant that pulls moisture into the skin, stick with gel in winter and add a bamboo sap spray to your routine." Amore Pacific makes a fabulous Bamboo spray called Moisture Bound Skin Energy well worth a spritz. Also great to use over makeup for a naturally hydrated and glistening effect.

Normal skin should use a creamier moisturizer, something that contains essential oils, not gel based. "Amore Pacific Time Response reprograms skin to reproduce hyaluronic acid (internally). Moisture Bound is more external. It has aqua sponge complex to slowly release moisture during the day (lasts for 8 hours). Moisture bound is preventative and a good choice for normal skin."

As for dry skin, masking once a week (reyhdrating the skin - vitalizing mask) is imperative. Heavy cream and a serum should be used to add extra hydration. "Serums are like vitamins for the skin. It's that little bit extra that you're not getting from your moisturizer," explains Oni.

1 must have winter product: Oni suggests the appropriate Amore Pacific Moisture Bound Moisturizer suitable for your skin type ($100 - $150). Sienna Miller is a fan. Score!
