Tips For Making Your Hair Color Last

According to hair colorist Allison Gandolfo of the Pierre Michel Salon, there are some steps you can take to make your color last longer....the shampoo, the sun, how often you wash your hair.

"The WORST thing a client will tell me is that they wear a hat when they go into the sun.  This does not prevent your color from fading, but acts almost like a oven oxidizing your hair color faster."

-- Oops, I SO do that!

"The heat from the sun on top of your head and your natural body heat underneath the hat a major NO NO! Instead, use products with sunscreen in them. Many companies are putting sunscreens into gels, shampoos, or making hair sunscreen. My favorite is Kerastase Soleil Voil protector for color treated hair."

"Washing your hair every day is a major no no for color treated hair. If you feel like you must wash your hair everyday try to wet hair and use conditioner but no shampoo.  When shampooing, use a color-treated shampoo every time.  On average you should wash your hair 2-3 times a week."

-- Again, I fall victim to over washing -- but I am quite diligent about using a sulfate-free shampoo as to not strip my hair color.
