Holiday Hair Trend

Jen Atkin of The Andy Lecompte Salon dishes on the Holiday hair trend: The Messy Updo. We've seen this look on countless celebrities at a myriad of red carpet events, but now it's time for YOU to rock it... just in time for your Holiday parties!

Do you want salon hair without salon prices? You're in luck. Long gone are the days of sleek, pencil straight hair (tres boring). And hair that's just dangling from the roots - so 2007! This holiday season is all about a messy updo. Not Kate Moss I-just-rolled-out-of-bed messy (unless you sleep with your hair pinned up - although that may be a bit uncomfortable). This look takes more time, but still offers that sexy "bead head" result with an added salon quality. And you can do this look with any length of hair! True, it teeters on hippy-chic, with emphasis on the "chic."

Here's how to achieve what Madonna and Scarlett are already sporting:

  • Put a lose wave throughout hair with a 1inch curling iron
  • Leave the hair in front of both ears down and curl it
  • Take the rest of the hair and pull it back in a low messy "chignon" (that's just a sophisticated way of saying bun."
  • Randomly disperse bobby pins anywhere and everywhere (you can also try one of the trusty Goody Ouchless Claw Clips!
If you have naturally curly hair, then you will only need to curl the front pieces. Otherwise, make sure to curl at least the top layer of hair. This adds texture to your hair, and the messy bun.

It's that easy! Let us know how this look works for you!
