Get The Look: Temperley, London Fashion Week 2011

I LOVE THIS LOOK! And I have such a girl crush on Gucci Westman. She's major when it comes to makeup artists!

Gucci, Revlon’s Global Artistic Director, created this strong, successful woman for the Temperley runway show in London last weekend. It's so red-carpet magic, I hope some of the A-list Oscar celebs take notice and rock it come Sunday! And it's drugstore affordable!

The Nails Of NYC Fashion Week 2011

So, we've seen an overload of the hair and makeup at this week's NYC fashion week, but what about the nail trends?

Companies like CND and Dashing Diva are all over the catwalk with Spring/ Summer's must-have creations....

Here's a look at what's to come on our tips:

At Jen Kao, CND nails by Kristina Estabrooks were inspired by organic, living things in the swampy depths of nature. Long, almond shape nails were based with Gold Chrome and Midnight Sapphire, and accented with drops of Gold Pearl, Iced Blue Shimmer, and Midnight Sapphire for a psychedelic stained glass effect. An almost aquatic quality took hold to match mind-bogglingly twisted hair, green metallic eye shadow and glittery bronze brows. 

Jason Wu's majestic, baroque nails were out in full force - Roxanne Valinoti created gilded burgundy manicures using Dark Ruby layered with Bloodline, and gilded with Gold Chrome smile lines. These manicures matched slicked back ponytails with a flash of gold leaf (CND). 

At Tibi, Pattie and her team created neon pink French manicures for models to accent the designer’s hot pink accessories (Dashing Diva).

At Imitation, Pattie used Dashing Diva’s Date Night polish for a classic red nail look, requested by the designer, Tara Subkoff.

Celebrity nail technician Pattie Yankee and the Dashing Diva nail tech team worked backstage and created glitter nails for models at the Jeremy Scott show.

Trend Forecasting: New York Fashion Week S/S 2011

New York Fashion Week is literally days away and I thought it would be educational to start off the festivities with a forecast of trends to come. With this in mind, I asked Daniel Martin, Lancome makeup artist who will be working his magic at the Chris Benz show next Monday, for his take on the top 5 trends we are bound to see on the runway come Thursday, February 10, 2011.

Here's what Daniel had to say:

1.      Eye shadows are back—We've seen lips for so long, women will experiment with their eyes again, especially with the use color!  Either it be a turquoise or aubergine shadow palettes (like Lancôme’s 5 Pan Palettes in Teal Fury and Mauve Chérie) or a bright colored eyeliner, the focus will be all eyes!

2.      Luminized skin—Skin will be radiant with shimmer creating a lit-from-within effect.

3.      Sheer pop of color on the mouth—Rather than lipstick, sheer textures with clear color will make an impact.

4.      Sculpted eyes and cheeks—You're going to see "strength" on the face. More emphasis on accenting and accentuating, rather than intense color.

5.      "NO Makeup" makeup—Modern and very 90's, we'll see a lot more monochromatic color for fall. Case in point, Emma Stone's makeup at the Golden Globes (pictured). Fresh with matching cheek, lip and eye colors harmonizing the entire look.

CHANEL 2011 SPRING/SUMMER HAUTE COUTURE BEAUTY

If you're unaware, the 2011 Spring/ Summer Haute Couture Shows just wrapped in Paris. This is when designers showcase those exceptionally gorgeous but highly overpriced clothing that .05 percent of the population can afford. GIRL CRUSH: Rebecca Hall

I loved her in Woody Allen's Vicky Christina Barcelona and I hope to love her just as much in Ben Affleck's The Town. Rebecca Hall is SO smoking she's practically on fire.

While doing press for her newest flick, Rebecca showed off a medley of different looks, from curly hair to straight, red lips to nude lips, but my favorite look comes from the Toronto Film Festival (pictured). The actress chose to wear her hair straight and to pair her red dress with a subtle eye and nude lip. It's all very natural and sophisticated yet somehow still manages to be very put together.

Makeup was created by Stephen Sollitto for NARS Cosmetics. He was going for a “modern and monochromatic for a vibe reminiscent of Studio 54.”

We may not all be blessed with Rebecca's gorgeous skin and luscious locks, but we can sure fake it! As for those arm muscles, that requires some heavy lifting.

PROENZA SCHOULER BACKSTAGE

Proenza is seriously one of my all time favorite clothing lines so I was delighted to see that the hair for Spring coming off the runway was equally glam.

Paul Hanlon, lead stylist for Frédéric Fekkai, created a rough, tousled half-twist with volume and wave. It's all very epic and romantic.

GET THE LOOK: Hanlon began by applying Fekkai’s Coiff™ Oceanique Tousled Wave Spray heavily throughout the hair from roots to ends, creating texture and fullness.

Using a diffuser, he finger-combed the hair dry.

Hanlon then loosely gathered and tucked the top half of the hair into a french twist at the nape of the neck, leaving a few long layers of hair free.

To obtain the modern style, he left the ends out of the twist and sprayed Fekkai Coiff™ Sheer Hold Hairspray all over, to secure the look.







This is a style I'd wear off a runway, perhaps to a benefit or a chic party. Proenza scores again!

MARC JACOBS BACKSTAGE

Probably the most highly anticipated show of the season, definitely when it comes to hair and makeup, is that of Marc Jacobs.... faces by Francois Nars of Nars Cosmetics. He always does something very non-traditional, most likely unwearable, but a work of art none-the-less.

This year was no exception. The trend here was glossy green eyes and deep matte lips. Here are the deets:

LOOK & INSPIRATION: “The look is very reminiscent of Angelica Houston in the 70s-the bleached brows and the deep eyes,” said François Nars. “I wanted them to look like iconic models from the 70s with a modern approach. Marc had images of what he wanted the makeup to look like – mimicking the colors of the clothing but not matching exactly.”

The designer debuted her Spring/ Summer line at Lincoln Center on Saturday evening. We have the backstage deets for the look:

"Inspired by 90’s minimalist grunge and ornate Moorish embellishments the Spring 11 collection has a
disheveled feel of thrown on dressing. Spanish Floral prints and embroidery give a spirited ethnic touch juxtaposed with the simplicity of the perfect bias cut slip dress, scrunched down boyfriend socks and
strappy stilettos finish the collection that is ‘Adorned’ in detail and ‘Minimal’ in effort.

The hair was inspired by the Corinne Day picture of Kate Moss." --- Charlotte Ronson.

Fashion Week: Backstage at Jason Wu

One of my favorite looks so far is that of the models at Jason Wu. It's polished yet still young and fresh. The makeup is pristine and the hair is intricate and beautiful.

Here, Aveda lead hair stylist Odile Gilbert explains how you can get the look:

“The Jason Wu hair look for this season is simple yet sophisticated, with 1970’s inspiration. We’re braiding chiffon—scraps from the collection—into the hair and twisting the ends into a flower. This look captures the happiness and excitement of spring and summer.” –Odile Gilbert for Aveda–Odile Gilbert for Aveda

HOW TO GET THE LOOK:

1. Prep damp hair with Aveda Smooth Infusion™ Style-Prep Smoother™ for smoothness and to tame flyaways. Use a fine-tooth comb to create a strong, clean part on the right side of the head and then blow dry straight using a Mason Pearson brush. 

2. Pull hair tightly back and separate into four sections along the nape of the neck. Spray each with Aveda Air Control™ Hair Spray for shine and flexible hold.

3. Tie a long ribbon or piece of fabric—in a shade close to the hair color—around the top of each section of hair. 

4. One section at a time, braid the fabric through the hair and secure at the bottom with an elastic. Leave excess fabric out at the bottom of each braid. Spray each braid liberally with Aveda Control Force™ Firm Hold Hair Spray for ultra-strong hold.

5. Collect all four braids and tie the fabric into one large bow at the end to create a ‘flower.’

6. Pull the fabric ‘flower’ upwards and secure at the nape of the neck with hair pins, creating beautiful braided loops stemming from the flower. Finish the look with Aveda Control Force™ Firm Hold Hair Spray.

Q: What was your inspiration for this look? How did you collaborate with the designer to create the look?

“Jason’s collection was inspired in part by the 1970’s, so we wanted the hair for this season to reflect the hair of that era. Though the look is ultra-sophisticated, it’s also young and playful, with clean, slick hair in front and a mélange of braids and twists gathered into a gorgeous flower in back. The addition of Jason’s material completes the look, like chiffon highlights.” — Odile Gilbert for Aveda

Q: How could a woman achieve this look on her own?

“This look is very simple to recreate and works on anyone. Prep hair with Aveda Smooth Infusion™ Style-Prep Smoother™ and blow dry straight. Separate four sections of hair in the back and twist a piece of fabric into each. Leave a little fabric out at the ends and tie them together into a bow. Celeb makeup artist Tina Turnbow has launched her limited edition line for tarte just in time for Fashion Week in New York. While her clients include Claire Danes, Rachel Weisz and Amanda Peet, Tina turned her magic towards the runway for Lela Rose and Susan Woo last week. Check out Tina’s green chic inspiration and step-by-step below.

Lela Rose Fall 2010 Overall Look:
The moonlit eyes are mysterious, while the complexion and lips have a cloudy, hazy feel.

FOR EYES: Think of the eye as a rounded sphere or planet. The inner crease of the eye is darkened up to the brow with the shimmery deep blue gray (eyeshadow in lucy I'm home). The outer area is rounded, softly muted blackness. The center of the eye is the lightest, with darker edges (inner and outer corner of eye) ending in black (eye couture palette). Apply blue lagoon only in the center of the top and lower lids. Blend the blue into the gray and then into a bit of the black. There should be a bit of the blue and silver gray (eye couture palette) blended in the center of the lower lashline. Apply smolderEYES in the inner rim of the eyes. Top it off with a coat of lights, camera, lashes! mascara on the top and bottom lashes (no curling needed). Leave eyebrows-do not fill in. After finishing the eyes, clean underneath with the eraser 4-in-1 natural concealer.

Tina wanted the face to “feel muted like a hazy, cloudy sky.” She created the look by using:
· the eraser 4-in-1 natural concealer after applying shadows to
avoid fallout.
· smooth operator oil-free tinted moisturizer with SPF 20
(one shade lighter than model's complexion)
· provocateur pressed mineral powder
· t-zone travel

To cheeks add “just a touch of healthy blush” with:
· blissful natural cheek stain (warm peachy pink)
· powder over blissful with provocateur pressed mineral powder

Susan Woo Fall 2010 Overall Look:

Effortless beauty- A fresh, slightly-dewy complexion with kohl-rimmed eyes.

Tina's palette was “all about a healthy, dewy complexion.” To get the look:
• Spot treat problem areas and darkness with the eraser 4-in-1 natural concealer.
• Apply smooth operator oil-free tinted moisturizer with SPF 20 all over the face.
• Using rest assured brightening wand apply the sheer pink highlighter on top of cheek bones, over lids before shadow application, on the bridge of the nose, on the cupid's bow and in the corner of eyes.
• Apply natural cheek stain in dollface in a U-shape from top of lids to outer and under eye area (acting as an illuminator).
• Dab natural cheek stain in true love on apples of cheek for “just a hint of flush.”
• Highlight cheeks with natural cheek stain in dollface.

Kohl-rimmed eyes add emphasis without being too smoky. Using the eye couture day-to-night palette apply the shimmery deep gray and top with the silver sheen. Then line the inner rim and lash line with emphasEYES™ natural high definition inner rim eye pencil in black and emphasEYES™ waterproof clay shadow/liner smudge the top line. You want to create darkness around the lash line.
• Curl lashes with picture perfect lash curler.
• Coat top and bottom lashes with lights, camera, lashes! 4-in-1 natural mascara.
• Using the lash and mascara comb brush brows in an upward motion.

LOVING THIS LOOK: FW 2010 Rodarte

The biggest hair trends so far: adornments. Be it a rubber band, a hat or flower pieces here at Rodarte, hair accessories are a must-have come fall 2010.

Aveda helps us get the look from one of the most beautiful show's this season: Rodarte.

Odile Gilbert created glossy, childlike hair adorned with handmade flower pins at the Rodarte Fall/Winter 2010 Fashion Week show in New York.



GET THE LOOK:

1. Prep damp hair with Aveda Smooth Infusion™ Glossing Straightener for shine and sleekness, and blow-dry smooth with a flat brush.

2. Create a clean left side part. Straighten hair layer by layer using a flat iron.

3. Create anchors for the flower pins by forming three small braids along the scalp: one along the left side of the occipital ridge, one across the center of the head, and one vertically along the left side part. Spray with Aveda Control Force™ Hair Spray for maximum hold.

4. Brush hair over the braids, keeping the left side part clean and strong. Spray each layer of hair with Aveda Control Force™ Hair Spray and blow-dry for intense hold and shine. Hair should be sleek and close to the head.

From the front, the hair looks like it is left down, but in back, it is controlled, adorned with metal flowers that look like barrettes. There’s also a Mexican influence on the look, since the Rodarte collection this season is inspired by bordertowns. Andre created two looks at the Rachel Roy Spring 2010 show – both over top voluminous looks, one with a modern edge and one more classic, both big on glamour. Backstage with Charlotte Ronson

Mercedes Benz New York Fall Fashion Week is finally over. Fashionistas are clearing out of the city and designers are hard at work on Spring Fashion Week...

BUT here at Beauty Banter we're taking an inside look at one of our favorite fashion designer's Spring 09 (debuted at the Promenade on Saturday, September 6, 2008) line: Charlotte Ronson!


Charlotte is an old friend of ours so we're very excited that we LOVE THE SPRING LINE SO MUCH!!! And we're even more excited to use our "friends and family" discount for these must-have frocks!

Now, onto the beauty. Beauty.com celebrity makeup artist, Tina Turnbow, transformed the innocent faces of the models into "grungy meets Lucky Star (as in Madonna)."

Charlotte says the inspiration came from asking these 3 questions: "Where were you between '88 and '92? What were you listening to? And what were you wearing? The make-up was designed to portray a touch of the 80's toned down with a hint of grunge. This gave an edgier look to my girl."

Tina, who used Tarte Cosmetics on the models, said "The makeup for Charlotte Ronson merged new wave and grunge. It featured a strong 80s brow and contoured cheek and the undone vibe of 90s grunge. Lip color was more of a bitten stain rather than a full color or gloss. The lid had a hint of olive green and a good coat of mascara. The look was a bit tough, but pretty and had an edge in its imperfection."
